This highly acclaimed musical drama is a leg-slapping’, toe-tappin’ retelling of the Gospels of Matthew and John translated into present day Southern vernacular.

GARLAND, TEXAS – Garland Civic Theatre has announced that the “Fundraiser” for this season will be Cotton Patch Gospel, a toe tapping musical, book by Tom Key and Russell Treyz, music and lyrics by Harry Chapin, based on the book “The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John” by Clarence Jordan.

From his birth in a Gainesville, Georgia trailer to His Good Friday lynching and Easter Sunday victory, the story of Mary Davidson’s son Jesus is presented with zest and uninhibited joy. The cast is an outstanding ensemble of singers, actors, and musicians including Knagui, Steven E. Beene, Linda Lee Bower, Lizzie Cochran, Randy Dobbs, Linda Frank, Kathryn Hackett, Josh Hepola, Jennifer Lee, Ricky Long, Tom McWhorter, Cathy J. Randles, David Lee Staggers, Peggy Tutson, and James Williams. The production is directed by Ricky Long and George Gagliardi is the music director. Wendi Polvi will handle props and Lynn Mauldin is the Stage Manager.

Performances are scheduled for the small theater at Granville Arts Center, 300 North 5th Street in downtown Garland. Preview will be on Thursday, February 17 and the run opens on Friday, February 18. Performance will continue February 19, 24, 25, 26 at 8:00 PM and February 19, 20, 26, 27 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $19.00 to $22.00 and are available at the Granville Arts Center Box Office or by calling 972-205-2790. Please note that a service charge of $1.00 is added for each ticket.
